What You'll Get
Though canines love tennis for its bouncy yellow balls, humans appreciate the freedom to bark loudly with each swing and bury their favorite rackets all over the court. Become a tennis beast with today's Groupon: for $999, you get a nonequity family summer membership at Maplewood Swim and Tennis Club (a $2,254.88 value). Maplewood opens for the summer on May 28.
Maplewood, a private club 25 minutes outside of New York City, gives urbanites respite from the concrete jungle with a combination of recreational activities, wooded copses, and rolling hills. Get aquatic relief from the summer heat at the outdoor swimming center with its two dedicated lap lanes, a covered water slide, full-time lifeguards, and a monitored kiddie pool. Volleyers of varying levels can perfect backhands, forehands, and the McEnroe tantrum on one of four DecoTurf tennis courts, and take pointers from the on-staff tennis pro. Youngsters can take it to the paint on the half-court basketball court or caper about on the full-sized playground as parents take advantage of free WiFi or test their game-playing prowess on the shuffleboard court or Ping-Pong table. Famished fun-seekers can nosh at the kid-friendly snack bar, nibble lunch from home, or have some kimchi airlifted from Korea.
Maplewood restricts membership to 185 families, keeping parking spaces available and fostering a feeling of community, and hosts Fourth of July and Labor Day barbecues in addition to a few evening social events and a raucous Saturnalia-in-July celebration.

About Maplewood Swim and Tennis Club
Tall trees and flourishing hedges surround the pools and tennis courts at Maplewood Swim and Tennis Club, tossing healthy amounts of shade onto lounge areas while also adding to the club's private atmosphere. For more than 50 years, the member-owned club has helped families fill warm and restless summer days with one full sized pool with a slide, a kiddie pool, four tennis courts, and a basketball court with a snack bar, plenty of organized kid-themed activities and free wi-fi. The clubhouse hosts ample storage space for chairs and pool rafts, in addition to a supply of board games and books. Each weekend, Maplewood's tennis pro visits the deco-turf courts to provide private and semi-private lessons offered by trained lifeguards on how to improve tennis techniques and make games of fetch more interesting to all skill levels, from the youngest player to the professional level.
