With two Grammys and a dozen plus albums to its credit, the Turtle Island Quartet has been a driving force in the contemporary chamber music scene since 1985. More vital and adventurous than ever, TIQ now takes a jazzy turn for its concert at Atlanta's Marcus Jewish Community Center. In addition to classics by Miles Davis, Dave Brubeck and others, the quartet will premiere a new work by co-founder David Balakrishnan. Called "Rebirth of the Holy Fool," this special premiere takes cool jazz as a starting point but borrows extensively from bluegrass, classical and Indian music -- so typical of the group's acclaimed style, yet still utterly surprising and unexpected. Even better, Malcolm Parson, currently of the Carolina Chocolate Drops, will pop in, bringing his unique classical/folk sound to this world-class evening of music.
