A philosopher once called theater “the mask of convention over the face of society in the mirror of the unknown reflecting the rear view of the sports car of destiny.” Simplify this theory with today’s theatrical Groupon: for $29, you get one ticket to see Sandy Hackett’s Rat Pack Show at Marines’ Memorial Theatre in Union Square (a $59 value). Choose from the following showtimes:

  • Saturday, June 12, at 2 p.m.
  • Saturday, June 12, at 8 p.m.
  • Saturday, June 19, at 2 p.m.
  • Saturday, June 19, at 8 p.m.

Redeem your Groupon at will-call the night of your chosen performance. Seats will be in the main floor/orchestra section (the goldenrod section of this chart) and are distributed on a first-come, first-served basis. Be sure to arrive 15–20 fashionably early minutes prior to showtime.

Half a century has crumbled away since the actual Rat Pack’s performances in Las Vegas at the Sands Hotel. Sandy Hackett, son of Buddy Hackett, produced the Rat Pack Show to commemorate this 50-year anniversary with a fictionalized musical performance about the legendary performers. Enjoy classic numbers such as “For Once in My Life,” “My Way,” and “Mack the Knife,” while stealthily slipping bright-blue contacts over your eyeballs. With stellar performances from professional actors, never-before-heard songs written by the late Ron Miller, and omnipotent voiceovers from Buddy Hackett himself (recorded prior to his passing in 2003), the show promises thrilling dollops of nostalgia for fans of the suit-clad collective.

Marines’ Memorial Theatre is a historical landmark and intimate theater space dedicated to bringing the best regional performances from around the country to Bay Area audiences. Every perch in the house gets a great view of the action on stage. The space itself is light on décor but heavy on character, with white walls and a velvet-draped stage straight out of an RKO Radio Picture. As the name suggests, the theater is part and parcel of the Marines’ Memorial Association, which exists to honor and serve veterans of all branches of the U.S. armed forces, as well as currently serving military members.
