Marshall M Fredericks Sculpture Museum

Chances are you've seen Marshall M. Fredericks' work and didn't even know it. Over the course of 70 years (1928-1998), Fredericks was commissioned to create enormous lifelike sculptures in public spaces across the country, including The Expanding Universe Fountain in Washington, DC and The Spirit of Detroit. His works were often lighthearted and whimsical, always imbued with a humanist spirit, but never lacking in gravitas. This museum on the Saginaw Valley State University campus is just a sampling of his vast repertoire, including a newly added sculpture garden with botanicals to complement and contrast the sculptures, including Fredericks' Night and Day fountain.

  • Size: 2,400+ pieces of the artist's work
  • Eye Catcher: the main exhibit gallery, where more than 200 of Fredericks' plaster models and bronze cast models are exhibited
  • Permanent Mainstay: in 2014, the museum dedicated the Jo Anne and Donald Petersen Sculpture Garden with botanical beds, winding walkways, and numerous bronze sculptures, including the Night and Day Fountain
  • Don't Miss: the Sculptor's Studio, a permanent installation of the tools, molds, and models that were used in Fredericks’ Royal Oak studio, including the plaster and clay models of British Poet Lord Byron, Fredericks’ last completed bronze
  • While You’re in the Neighborhood: many of the artist's sculptures have been installed around the Saginaw Valley State University Campus, including Leaping Gazelle and Black Elk Homage to the Great Spirit, Fredericks' last commissioned piece

"Fun couples date."
This is a fun, inexpensive couples date idea. You'll see giant sculptures , that's a given but you don't have to be an art buff to appreciate it. We spent most of the time taking silly pictures with the works. Get Yogurt Yeti after.

Had no idea how many sculptures we were going to see and was pleasantly surprised at how spectacular the museum really is. The student working the day we visited was very friendly and really filled us in on the history of the museum. This is a must see for anyone that loves art!
