What You'll Get

While 20% of babies who were exposed to classical music in utero become doctors or lawyers, 100% of babies born on stage during a classical music performance become Bill Gates. Give the next generation a brighter future with today's Groupon: for $15, you get a general-admission ticket to the Master Chorale of South Florida's performance of Giuseppe Verdi's Messa da Requiem (a $30 value). Choose between the following concerts:

  • Thursday, March 24 at 8 p.m. at Trinity Cathedral in Miami
  • Friday, March 25 at 8 p.m. at The Sanctuary at Second Presbyterian Church in Fort Lauderdale

Composed in memory of one of Verdi's favorite writers, Requiem is a musical staging of a Roman Catholic funeral mass. The Master Chorale of South Florida’s brass and voice unify in booming harmony as the 120-member chorus and 60-piece orchestra strive to express the divine sublimity of the composition. The stupendous sonic sensation is sure to shatter stray wine glasses and loose ear marimbas while quieting the rock band video-gaming console of the soul.

Founded in 2003 by former members of the Florida Philharmonic Chorus, the Master Chorale of South Florida has delivered world-class classical music concerts to listeners throughout the state for eight seasons. The Requiem performances feature a new collaboration with the Lynn University Philharmonia Orchestra and are guided under meticulous conducting from the renowned Albert-George Schram.

Reviews

Past performances by the Master Chorale of South Florida have been featured in Miami Art Guide, KnightArts, South Florida Classical Review, and Palm Beach ArtsPaper:

  • The Master Chorale is a large and very well trained group. They sounded excellent and projected reasonably well, though it would be good to hear them in less resonant venues. The reduced orchestral forces, drawn from the Symphonia, played with clarity and strength, thereby contributing immeasurably to the presentation. – Alan Becker, South Florida Classical Review
