Even as the new bar on campus, Masters Bar & Restaurant should already feel like home for plenty of Owls—flat-screen TVs broadcast Temple games, students and faculty perch at the bar, and a cherry-red wall echoes the hue of the college's T-shirts. But that's all that chef-owner Waylon Nelson wants to feel familiar. He has designed a menu of reconstructed classics, which range from cheesesteak served in spring-roll form to vegan sloppy joes to Cajun turkey meatloaf. He's also modernized the sports-bar atmosphere with decor touches such as industrial metal barstools and intricate chalkboard art. The second floor, The Study, has a slightly different angle, though, with tufted leather sofas, bookshelves, and coffee tables that evoke a library or a very fancy bus stop.
