At the age at which most children learn to speak, Mozart had already composed four symphonies, restored 11 classic cars, and built a robot to play against in squash. Catch up to Mozart's accomplishments with today's Groupon: for $49, you get four 30-minute private music lessons at Matt's Music Center in Weymouth (a $100 value). Choose from guitar, bass, piano, drum, or voice lessons. Taking lessons in the same instrument for the life of this Groupon is strongly recommended.
The skilled instructors at Matt's Music, trained at institutions such as Berklee and the New England Conservatory, impart instrumental wisdom to students ages 7 and up. Matt's guitar gurus invoke extensive stage experience to demystify a range of instruments, including acoustic guitars and electric bass, expounding on far-flung genres such as rock, country, funk, and dial-up modem sonatas. Piano pupils learn to coax classical and pop melodies from ebony and ivory, and percussion sessions guide budding drummers through rhythmic exercises practiced on drum sets, hand percussion instruments, and hollowed-out cantaloupes. Alternately, singers learn breath control and tone in voice lessons geared toward classical, opera, chorus, and pop.
Schedules depend on student demand, so call or email for schedules at both locations.
Matt's Music Center
A guitar player for 32 years and a music retailer for more than two decades, Matt earned his musical chops alongside some of the best in the business. As a member of the band Adam Bomb in the late '80s, he shared the stage with notables including Dio, Stryper, Kings X, and Iron Maiden; today, the lineup of his current band, Machines of Grace, includes members of the Trans-Siberian Orchestra. The showroom at his Weymouth music store reflects this lifelong dedication, with shelves lined with electric and acoustic guitars, name-brand amps, and all sorts of sheet music. The shop’s soundproofed practice room provides a sanctuary for private lessons from Matt’s handpicked staff of professionally trained guitarists, drummers, pianists, woodwinders, and singers, many of whom graduated from the harmonious halls of the Berklee College of Music.
