Slave Letters at Stone Cottage Theatre
Similar deals
Just in time for Black History Month, a stirring dramatization of Slave Letters comes to the Stone Cottage Theatre in the North Dallas area. During the dark era of slavery in the United States, most men and women held in bondage were deliberately kept uneducated and illiterate. It was a crime to teach a slave how to read or write. But some brave souls secretly learned to read, and many of them chronicled the daily life of slavery in their letters and diaries. Slave Letters collects some of these writings together into a dramatic piece, showing the sense of love, longing, hope and, above all, the desire for freedom that united those in bondage. The reading of these letters will be interspersed with Negro Spirituals and slave songs from the era.
Event Description:
Running time 1 hour and 45 minutes, including a 15 minute intermission.
