McKay Photography Academy trains eyes, fingers, and imaginations to work in tandem as a snapshooting dream machine during any one of its classes. David and Ally McKay, an award-winning duo recognized by Professional Photographers of America, guide digital photography students toting their own cameras through basics such as manual settings, composition, and downloading before progressing to more advanced aspects, such as lenses and perspective, exposure control, shutter speeds, and hosting parties in abandoned darkrooms. After learning the photography ropes, students turn their attention to editing and learn how to appropriately size snapshots for websites and email.

Neophyte photo editors can take their skills even further in the beginners Photoshop course—a four-hour journey into the intricacies of photo manipulation. Students work alongside instructor Jeff Dachowski to probe Photoshop’s many operations, such as fading blemishes through re-touching, adjusting color and light levels, and cropping out bunny ears made by photo-crashing pets. Pic fixers also learn practical workflow management to ensure photographs are edited in a timely manner.

McKay Photography Academy

Bearing the titles of Master of Photography and Photographic Craftsman from Professional Photographers of America, David and Ally McKay embody the keen vision and aesthetic prowess that separated good photographers from great ones. They share these skills during classes at McKay Photography Academy, where they train eyes, fingers, and imaginations to work in tandem as a snapshooting dream machine. Their classes help aspiring photographers progress from neophytes to seasoned pros. When not busy instructing the next generation of shutterbugs, David and Ally also devise photo safaris, which send small teams of photographers to capture shots of famed landmarks including San Francisco's Golden Gate Bridge; the Lincoln Memorial of Washington, DC; or Yosemite's 60-foot statue of Yogi Bear.

Good introduction class
Angie Y. · January 22, 2012
I really enjoyed the class. It was fun and informative. I had read about most of the content before the class, but it all came together during the class. The examples were really helpful. And the McKay's are great instructors. I have to admit that I would have been disappointed if I had paid $399 for a seminar style class like this without much 1-on-1 attention. A great discount was offered for the intermediate class onsite and I signed up for it. Looking forward to learning more about exposure.
