Hello! I was given my Nikon 2 yrs ago for my birthday (which happens to be Feb 24th!). I have made a lot of progress, several lens purchases and consider myself to be maybe an advanced beginner. There are specific areas that I need work on. I'm wondering if this class might be TOO basic for me. How "beginner" is it?

Suzanne S.  asked on  Jan 22, 2013

A:

Hi Suzanne! It's starts off pretty basic to begin with to get everyone up to speed. Then we get into lens choice, perspective and focal lengths. After that its all about manual settings and how to use them including learning Depth of Field. I would imagine some of the class will be basic for you , however if you don't understand manual settings then this course will get you solid teaching on them! David

Q:

How large will this class be? Will there be a chance for 1-on-1 or time for questions? Will there be hands on with the cameras and practicing?

Hi SP, Our courses very in various locations around the world. Typically our average course is about 100-150. We use very beautiful facilities and projection and sound systems. In this case, the large theatre room at the Museum of FLight whihc is awesome and a HIGE progection screen and comfortable facility I would invite you to take a look at our McKay Photography Academy FB page and see the various comments from attendees such as yesterdays class and what they post about it as it is from real people that actually have attended. Also, please visit our web page and the Teaching methods and other portions of the site to see what we offer including photo safaris arond the world. Thanks and hope to see you there! David

Recommendation on digital camera with GPS? Exhausted trying find camera - love to take your course. 2 decades ago enjoyed photography on world trips and intend to return to this. For now need reliability and intuitive controls - don't have time or want frustration of problem cameras or complicated instructions. Want GPS, macro, great zoom, video, reliability & ease and great photo quality? Don't see sense in renting something I might not keep just for this class. Looking at 1) Nikon COOLPIX AW100 16 MP CMOS Waterproof Digital Camera with GPS and Full HD 1080p Video (Orange) - Nikon 2) Canon Powershot SX500 IS Digital Camera ---but it does NOT have GPS (which I need). Would your class make sense for the Nikon CoolPix? The reviews are either raves or foggy or blurry photos - can't afford to buy something that won't work well. I love world adventure, so l loved the idea behind this camera.

A:

Hi Sally,Too hard to explain all in this disucssion board. Personally, I would come to our course and make the purchase afterwards based on some of what we teach as you see your needs discussed. I woudl nto buy a camera based on the GPS system. Use a GPS for GPS. Call Zacahary at Calumet San Francisco and he can help you with selections as he knows all the models and makes out there. As far as our class goes, any camera with full manual settings for comtrol will work. Personally, with these cameras you are going to be limited on what you can do based on lenses being built in vs interchangable. David
