With two Grammys and 15 albums to its credit, the Turtle Island Quartet has been ahead of the race in the contemporary chamber music scene for the last 30 years. More vital and adventurous than ever, the ensemble picked up a Grammy nod for a cut from its latest acclaimed disc, Confetti Man, which perfectly illustrates their wide-ranging mix of jazz, classical, pop, bluegrass and Indian influences. In fact, The Turtle Island Quartet takes its name from the Native American term for the North American continent, especially fitting since the ensemble's signature sound pays tribute to so many American genres. For their latest performance at Glen Ellyn's McAninch Arts Center, they'll play an exciting new work by co-founder David Balakrishnan as part of their Birth of the Cool concert, featuring works by Miles Davis, Gerry Mulligan, Dave Brubeck and more.
