Q:

My camera is a Panasonic - Lumix DMC GF5. Comments? Would like to move to a DSLR (?) Wanting to learn the vast amount of settings offered. Is this a good camera to start with? I am well versed in 35mm film, and 5X7 View Cameras. I'm ready to tackle digital. I understand the classroom setting, however, is there oppourtunity for one-on-one? Thank you in advance, and I am looking forward to the class, and meeting you. Casey

A:

Hi Casey, You will learn a ton about all the manual settings and how they function. As well as learn maybe what type of camera you might want to move into in the future. The camera you have now I have not played with a lot. But I believe it has all the manual functions and is a very good camera. As far as one on one. We offer our photographic trips all over the world. Everything from one day trips in SF to 2 weeks in Italy and everything in between. Take a look at out web site and see the trips we offer. Most are already sold out for 2014, BUT we just announced a new Spring Yosemite that has not even been listed yet. . See you soon!

Q:

I have a Nikon CoolPix L100 -15x optical zoom vr (and I purchased a K WIfotos Lens Adapter LA-67L 100). There's not a lot of manual settings, but I'm thinking I might still learn a lot about lighting, background, speed, etc. what do you think?

A:

Although a digital camera with manual modes is recommended, any digital camera may be used.

Q:

I have a Sony Nex7. While it is not a high quality DSLR, do you consider it "good enough" for this class? Thank you.

Kathi  asked on  Jan 1, 2014

A:

Hi Kathi! The Sony NEX 7 is actually a wonderful camera. It has all the features of a DSLR but in a smaller body. So yes you will learn about all the manual settings. how to use them and lens perspective as well as composition. See you soon and Happy New Year! David
