  • $89 for a five-hour beginners’ digital-photography course for two (an $848 value)

During the course—taking place from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 19 at the Sharonville Convention Center—beginning shutterbugs master the manual settings of their camera and discover firsthand how a change in shutter speed, aperture, or ISO affects the image. Instructors also cover compositional best practices such as the rule of thirds, lens choice, and the use of leading lines. Although any digital camera may be used, students will get the most out of the class by bringing a high-quality camera with a manual mode.

McKay Photography Academy

Bearing the titles of Master of Photography and Photographic Craftsman from Professional Photographers of America, David and Ally McKay embody the keen vision and aesthetic prowess that separated good photographers from great ones. They share these skills during classes at McKay Photography Academy, where they train eyes, fingers, and imaginations to work in tandem as a snapshooting dream machine. Their classes help aspiring photographers progress from neophytes to seasoned pros. When not busy instructing the next generation of shutterbugs, David and Ally also devise photo safaris, which send small teams of photographers to capture shots of famed landmarks including San Francisco's Golden Gate Bridge; the Lincoln Memorial of Washington, DC; or Yosemite's 60-foot statue of Yogi Bear.

Customer Reviews

The class was informative and entertaining, however, they should have had a handout that detailed the contents of their presentation as a take home piece.

Learning at McKay Photography Academy is nothing short of wonderful! I have always been interested in photography but never found the right class or environment. Dave and Ally tag-team classes which are very educational, respectful (of knowledge and ability) and fun! I understand how to use my camera now with more confidence and continue to take classes from them to further my ability to understand photography as an art. I just returned from my first tour with MPA to Yellowstone National Park - there are no words to describe the experience except phenominal! I am living my dream learning to create pictures I am proud of!! Thank you MPA!!
