- $44 for Adventure Hall admission for four with entry to Body Worlds Rx exhibit ($72 value)
The Body Worlds Rx special exhibit features a collection of preserved human bodies made with the Plastination process pioneered by anatomist Dr. Gunther von Hagens. These articulated figures show the complexity of the human body while performing such movements as standing, swimming, and pole-vaulting. Along with preserved organs and body slices, they focus on the most prevalent contemporary diseases afflicting children and adults alike—perhaps inspiring them to further embrace preventive medicine. The exhibit runs until May 1.
The McWane Science Center’s Adventure Hall has four floors of fun, educational exhibits including a dig pit, a weather lab, an optical illusions gallery, an air cannon, and a giant piano. See the museum hours to plan your visit. Children younger than 2 get in free.
McWane Science Center
Tiny hands sift through sand to find ancient fossils, with no archaeologists in sight. But these aren’t scenes from a zany summer movie about all the adults disappearing: they're snapshots of the McWane Science Center, whose dozens of fun, interactive exhibits enliven science.
Notable exhibits include a collection of Alabama dinosaur skeletons that help us understand what life was like in the state millions of years ago. An aquarium area boasts a Shark & Ray Touch Tank, delighting visitors with an aquatic petting zoo. Interactive contraptions such as the pulley chair lift—which lets kids learn about simple machines as they hoist themselves aloft—convey abstract concepts with fun activities.
