Mediterranno stays true to the aspects of life most important to its eponymous basin—flavourful food, light dancing, enchanting melodies, and good company. Within a restored heritage building made vibrant with music and dancing—from the shimmying flames of a plate of saganaki to the swiveling hips of the occasional belly dancer—dishes represent countries from around the Mediterranean region. Chefs use handed-down recipes to build pizzas and design Spanish-style tapas, and they handle traditional spices from Greece, Morocco, and Tunisia in dishes such as souvlaki or crab kofta. They even venture into French territory with the magret de canard—duck breast with a sour-cherry glaze and roasted-garlic purée. The resident sommelier, meanwhile, can handpick wine from the cellar to pair with a regional, multicourse meal or pour into a wineskin before an extended trek through the Middle Ages.
