Mel's Good Times Cafe
Chef Sonny Poche is a walking dichotomy: he's a Louisiana native who's called North Carolina home for quite a long time. He puts that contrast to good use, marrying the flavors of those two regions on the menu at Mel's Good Times Cafe. A fish monger in the Carolinas since the 1960s, Sonny specializes in seafood dishes, such as his fried crawfish and his bang-bang shrimp po' boys. The po' boys are particularly authentic, thanks to being served on rolls straight from New Orleans' Leidenheimer Bakery. The red beans and rice are the classic house specialty, though, which guests can wash down with hurricanes and Abita Brewing beers.
