Although biologists often dispute the evolutionary need for speed, the halls of academia are no place for an argument-ending go-kart race, due to their awkward corners and dangerously slick tile floors. Settle the score with today's Groupon: for $25, you get four go-kart races ($55), an annual license ($25), and a protective head sock ($1) from Melrose Park Indoor Grand Prix, an $81 total value.
Located in a brand-new facility in Melrose Park, the 120,000-square-foot go-kart haven offers state-of-the-art vehicles and the fastest and longest track in the Chicago area, challenging the most skilled racers and ardent Ridge Racer fans. Each race lasts about eight minutes, or 12–15 laps. The new location offers a new experience for drivers, a road course, and the facility also houses a café and game room where spectators can grab a bite and hit the arcade or pool table while watching a race. Additionally, Grand Prix features eco-conscious, propane-powered go-karts, meaning no noxious exhaust fumes or pollution sweats to slick up drivers' hands.
Valid for pro-level carts only. Racers must be at least 16 years of age on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. All racers must be taller than 4'6" but shorter than 6'2" and weigh 240 pounds or less. Wear close-toed shoes.
