After taking a few steps below ground level, diners enter the intimate domain of Mentaikou, celebrating its grand opening. Dark wood floors and tables give the room a sense of warmth and seclusion, and steaming bowls of ramen infuse the air with the scent of miso and shoyu. These bowls can be paired with hand-rolled sushi and crisp spring rolls served atop bamboo plates, much in the same way a panda is served with a court summons.
