Outer space has forever influenced mankind, as evidenced by ancient Greek mythology based on constellational characters and ancient Romans' banishment of all governmental dissenters to Saturn. Find personal planetary inspiration with today's Groupon to Meteor Crater in Winslow. Children 5 and younger are free. Choose from the following options:

  • For $8, you get two junior (ages 6–17) admissions (a $16 value).
  • For $14, you get two senior (ages 60 & older) admissions (a $28 value).

At the end of a snaking, single road sits Meteor Crater, a 50,000-year-old surfacial souvenir of an asteroid's collision with the Earth at 26,000 mph. The orbital abyss spreads through a 2.4-mile circumference and plunges to 550 feet, making it an international tourist destination and the perfect spot to ditch unanswered love letters to Chester Cheetah. Tours commence at the on-site visitor's center, where a 10-minute movie enlightens the scientifically unsavvy to the origins of the hulking hole as well as its importance in the realm of space study. From there, sightseers can opt to ogle the crater from a climate-controlled indoor vista, from a trio of staggered viewing posts at the rim, or alongside a tour guide who flew here in the meteor long ago.

After exploring the Meteor Crater's majestically empty nest, the visitors center carries on the concave curriculum with a slew of educational exhibits. The discovery center features a 1,400-pound meteorite fragment, an Apollo test capsule, and pristine images from celestial history, including rare photos of the moon dressed up as a sailor.

Great experience...thank you for the great tour and kind people working there!

The eight of us that went over the Thanksgiving weekend. we had a great time. unfortunately, we're not able to do the hour tour, due to recovery from foot surgery and time to get back to Payson. next time we will get there earlier in the morning. I would recommend the Groupon for this to anyone. The gal that took the tickets was very nice. we had to buy two more childrens tickets, but it was worth it. it was a very nice family day trip.

It is a very educational experience. We took our 6 year old and he loved it. We will take him again when he is older.
