You may not be familiar with musician Lead Belly, but if you love the music of The Beatles, Bob Dylan, The Rolling Stones, Eric Clapton, Little Richard or John Fogerty you have a lot to thank him for. The 1930s and '40s folk and blues legend, famous for his songs such as "Goodnight, Irene" and "Midnight Special," inspired all these acts. As Van Morrison put it: "Lead Belly wasn't an influence, he was the influence." Now, a collection of talented singers and musicians are paying tribute to Lead Belly at Carnegie Hall, the site of his final show in 1949. See artists Eric Burdon ("House of the Rising Sun," "Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood"), Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Buddy Guy, Edgar Winter ("Free Ride"), The Ramones drummer Marky Ramone, blues/rock guitarist Kenny Wayne Shepherd and many more perform songs inspired by Lead Belly. Not only will this be a fantastic night of rock, soul, blues and folk music, but the concert will also support the Association to Benefit Children andProject ALS. Please see the description for the full show lineup.
