Irish composer Donnacha Dennehy, praised as "magnificently energetic" by The New York Times, has taken inspiration from the Metropolitan Museum of Arts' percussion collection in the creation of his new musical work, Surface Tension. Built around melodic, harmonic drumhead tension, Surface Tension will be performed by Third Coast Percussion, the Chicago-based quartet known for exciting collaborations, innovative instruments -- an IKEA strainer has been known to grace the stage -- and hard grooves. You've probably heard a lot of percussion in your lifetime -- after all, it's the oldest type of music next to the human voice. But no other ensemble sounds like quite like Third Coast Percussion. Enjoy a pre-performance drink and soak in their serious musical innovation when they make their way to the Met.
