Delightfully effervescent, Donizetti's farcical opera Don Pasquale is one of opera's greatest comedies, yet it also emphasizes the deeper human emotions. Wealthy Don Pasquale (Ambrogio Maestri) insists that his nephew Ernesto (Javier Camarena) marry a rich woman to inherit his estate, but Ernesto refuses as he's in love with Norina (Eleonora Buratto), a beautiful young widow. Ernesto and Norina then scheme to thwart the pompous Don's selfish plans, necessitating rampant overspending, a sham marriage and hilarious disguises. Uproariously funny yet sophisticated, Don Pasquale, at the Metropolitan Opera House, is sung in Italian with subtitles in English, German, Italian and Spanish. A glass of champagne or a nonalcoholic beverage is included with each ticket.
