What You'll Get
After scientists revealed UFOs were actually full-grown tortillas, people everywhere filled swimming pools with guac and beans to catch and dissect the floury creatures. Nab a tender, baby disc with today's Groupon: for $15, you get $30 worth of enchiladas, tacos, and more at Mextopia, located in Lower Greenville. Groupon holders who spurn the usual dodge ball/Yahtzee night on Mondays or Tuesdays will receive a complimentary queso for the table.
Mextopia gives bean, cheese, and tortilla lovers their fill via modern updates on traditional Tex-Mex entrees and appetizers. After memorizing the menu, answer an appetizer inquiry with a plate of quesadillas garnished with fajita beef ($10.95), or the nacho sampler ($12.95), with two bean, two brisket, and two shredded-chicken nachos. Entrees include the pan-fried tacos ($9.95), with the tasteful tag team of two brisket and two chicken tacos grappling hunger and obliterating it with a flying clothesline of deliciousness. Savor a bowl of pozole stew ($6.50), with shredded chicken and hominy in a chile broth, or south-of-the-border desserts, like the Mextopian version of bread pudding ($7.50), with the subtle dabbling of chocolate and cinnamon.
Owner Ricardo Avila, well known for a tamale-cooking appearance on Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives, has created a relaxed, dimly lit interior perfect for munching on mole con pollo, complete with bar lights born from tequila bottles. Those driving hard-to-park winged monster trucks can use Mextopia's free valet on the weekends, cutting down on parking rage and paving the way for the savory feast that lies ahead.

- The traditional Tex-Mex menu's augmented by next-level gems like pan-fried tacos, chile-sauced braised pork loin, and a sauteed tomato-onion-jalapeno-topped rib eye… – Thrillist
- I visited Mextopia today and really enjoyed it! Lower Greenville needs more places like this - fresh food, good patio, friendly owners, etc. – Norma N., Yelp
- Seriously, the Brisket Tacos are to die for! I'm originally from San Diego and I think I know a thing or two about Mexican food. I can't say enough good things about these tacos. The way they are seasoned and cooked is unbelievable and I've had a few good tacos in my time. – Michael S., Yelp
The Fine Print
Promotional value expires Dec 29, 2010. Amount paid never expires. Limit 2 per person. Limit 1 per table. Not valid toward alcohol. Merchant is solely responsible to purchasers for the care and quality of the advertised goods and services.
For the last 25 years, Ricardo and Michelle Avila have been dabbling with spices and tenderizing meats, meticulously perfecting the recipes that populate Mextopia’s menu. From brisket gorditas to guisado de puerco—a house specialty of braised pork loin in chili cascabel sauce—the traditional and Tex-Mex entrees pair with a roster of beers from Mexico and Central and South America. During happy hour on Thursdays and Saturdays, the draft beers are served with complimentary plates of sweet-and-spicy bacon in an effort to provide the community more protein in preparation for hibernation. The savory-sweet combos can be enjoyed on the outdoor patio or inside, where the purple glow of neon lights washes over the granite-topped bar and warm orange walls cultivate a festive atmosphere.
