Seeing live music can be a transcendent mind-body experience, akin to getting a tattoo underwater or making out during an eclipse. Transcend boredom with today's Groupon: for $25, you get two general-admission tickets to MiaFest 2011 at the Klipsch Amphitheater at Bayfront Park on Sunday, June 26 (a $50 value). Doors open at 5 p.m.
MiaFest’s lineup culls Latin music’s most notable noisemakers for a one-night-only celebration of summer and sound in view of Miami’s picturesque skyline. Cuban reggaetón rockers Gente de Zona headline, inspiring with hits such as “Mama Me Lo Contó” and quotes from Aristotle’s treatise on booty-shaking. Supporting acts from a variety of Latin nationalities—such as pop vocalist Mr. Hansy and reggaetón-meets-R&B fusers Maikol y El Karo—add aural fuel to the evening’s fire. Some artists on MiaFest’s lineup are performing for the first time in the United States, including dance DJ PMM. Additional acts will be announced in the coming weeks.
The shindig springs to life at the Klipsch Amphitheater in Bayfront Park, a recently renovated music venue featuring spacious lawn seating, sight lines of the Biscayne Bay’s brilliant blue waters, and a state-of-the-art sound system that plays music in all 10 dimensions. Children 12 and under receive free admission to the evening’s proceedings, providing a gateway to the joy of live music amid a family-friendly atmosphere. General-admission seating is first come, first served, so arriving early to select a spot is recommended.
