What You'll Get
A city is a place of tremendous variety, usually constructed upon rock ‘n’ roll. Plumb the secret depths of a city sculpted from clay with today's Groupon to Michael Garman's Magic Town in the Old Colorado City national historic district. Choose between the following options:
• For $6, you get two admissions to the museum, which includes a self-guided tour of the miniature sculpture city, a bag of popcorn, and a scavenger hunt (up to a $14 value).
• For $35, you get a $70 worth of statuettes and dioramas at the gift store or online shop.
Both admission tickets must be used on the same day. Children ages 6 and younger enjoy free admission, and children ages 7–11 are $3.
Hand-sculpted by Michael Garman, Magic Town is a 1/6-scale city neighborhood complete with 18 extremely detailed buildings. Using trick lighting, mirrored alleyways, and holograms, the diminutive buildings come to life, showcasing the inner workings of the small town. Magic Town, cut out of Americana clay, captures the daily goings-on of ceramic and holographic local residents. Moments often missed in the overwhelmingly large environment of the full-size world, such as a sweet first kiss, are visible in this microdetailed microcosm of American life. Feel like a giant among mini men by peering through a window to see what the smaller-than-pintsized citizens of the 3,200-square-foot theater do with their days. Michael Garman specializes in figurative sculptures and has presented his work to celebrities and heads of state, including John Elway, Ronald Reagan, Florida's noggin, and Burt Reynolds.
A turn in the online store or gift shop leads browsers through shelves of intricate hand-painted statuettes and figurines. The lined faces, weary expressions, and lifelike postures of American hero sculptures transform cowboy, firemen, and Santa archetypes into vivid individuals, such as a 7-inch bronze-toned statue of an aviator titled Flying Leather ($69.99). The holiday collection decks houses with festive figures, such as the signature saint bernard dressed up for trick-or-treating in Halloween Bernie ($69.99). Mini scenes, such as the Early Edition ($22.99) or the Out to Lunch ($89.99) serve a nostalgic slice of old small-town life.
