At Michigan Actors Studio, experienced instructors train the next generation to grace the stage and silver screen in professional acting classes and workshops. Drama aficionados can step onto the stage during an eight-week Acting I class ($230) in which students analyze scripts, practice monologues, and scream “Stella!” in various vocal registers. Those less inclined to follow the script can prove their imagination’s might in an Improv 1 class ($230), and younger drama yeomen can take stagecraft first steps in kids’ and teens’ acting classes.
During the three-week Introduction to Acting for Film fall workshop, a skilled instructor tutors actors of all levels in audition etiquette, camera angles, and how to make it look like your headshot’s eyes are following its viewer around the room. Tyros also learn to craft resumes and demo reels and get tips for avoiding scams. Michigan Actors Studio alumni have appeared in such films as Transformers, Whip It, directed by Drew Barrymore, and the upcoming Real Steel starring Hugh Jackman.
