Michigan's Big Country Fest makes ears perk up and boots start tapping to a menu of sweet country sounds. Friday night's festivities kick off to a DJ–supplied soundtrack for a hot-dog-eating contest, line-dancing lessons, a bar-stool race, and a farmer's-tan contest. The night's headline act is Annabelle Road, one of Michigan's premiere young country bands, whose self-titled album fuses rock with classic country.

Saturday night hosts the same roster of contests and vendors and adds a coed sand-volleyball tournament ($16/four-person team, not included in admission). At 6 p.m., Kentucky Strait takes the stage, stirring up a crowd for closing act Mandi Layne & The Lost Highway, whose single "If You Ain't Wasted" is a testament to the sustainable-living movement. Beer and mixed drinks ($3–$9), down-home dinners ($1–$10), and other snacks will be on hand for between-set snacking and enhancing one's cowboy cred with a full barbecue-sauce mustache.
