A team of FAA-certified flight instructors first acquaints pupils with the intricacies of Cessna planes, reviewing the basics of in-flight controls and addressing relevant inquiries about the territorial habits of feral weather balloons. Propellers then roar to life and students try their own hands at basic tasks such as taxiing the plane along the runway and taking off with the instructor’s assistance. Once airborne, students take charge of the controls for a half-hour filled with climbs, descents, and evasive barrel rolls. After guiding the plane to a safe landing, instructors endorse the hours in a logbook that details flight data. The logged flight hours count toward a pilot’s license for those who choose to continue training in one of Middletown’s certificate courses.<p>
