Today’s side deal offers quality bonding time with the scaled, gilled, glassy-eyed denizens of freshwater nature pools: for $75, you get a two-hour guided fishing trip (a $200 value) from Mike Davis Outdoors on Old Hickory Lake in Gallatin. A fishing license is not included in this deal, but it is required for this excursion. The license ($5.50 for one-day fishing) can be purchased online or at any fishing and tackle store.

Mike Davis Outdoors provides friendly, guided trips for fishing neophytes and freshwater pros alike on the placid waters of Old Hickory Lake, known for its teeming populations of crappie, bluegill, bass, and more. Fuel is included during your time on the lake, as are life jackets, rods and reels, artificial bait, snacks, and drinks. Snacks and bait are kept in separate color-coded bins to prevent the fish from ingesting Fritos and growing to city-crushing proportions. Mike Davis, a seasoned, CPR-certified fish-catcher, will gladly share tips and tricks, explicate winning techniques, and steer you toward the most fin-rich pockets of the lake. He'll even customize each two-hour jaunt to suit its clients.

Tour times are subject to availability, and there is a maximum of two people allowed on the boat. A fishing license is necessary but not included, and guide gratuity (though not required) is good for scaly karma.

Reservations are required.

Mike Davis Outdoors

Professional anger and guide Mike Davis picked up his first fishing pole in his hometown of Orlando, Florida, where the swampy surroundings provided ample opportunities for reeling in scaly specimens. After high school, Mike fulfilled his childhood dream of being a meteorologist before serving a combat tour in the Persian Gulf during Desert Storm, and once back in the States, he was selected as a member of the National Weather Service. While his head was in the clouds, his heart remained by the water, and he ultimately decided to make his passion for fishing his life's pursuit. Today, Mike resides in Nashville where he leads guided fishing tours on Old Hickory Lake, helping anglers of all ages and abilities catch bass, crappie, catfish, and the rare yet inedible rubber fish.
