The Milwaukee Wave turns another page in its storied history book on December 31 as its 2010–11 squad sets out to defend last year's regular-season championship. Catch goal-scoring machine Giuliano Oliviero and Brazilian midfielder Hewerton take on the Missouri Comets inside U.S. Cellular Arena, where virtually every seat offers flawless views of the field to spot every clutch save and game-tying goal without x-ray binoculars or Hubble Space Telescopes. This year the Wave will become the first Major Indoor Soccer League team to wear 11 unique home jerseys, each one custom-designed with the logo and colors of a different charity. The longest running professional soccer franchise in the United States, the Milwaukee Wave debuted in 1984 as one of the six charter members of the American Indoor Soccer Association. Now, nearly three decades later, and as part of the Major Indoor Soccer League, the club builds upon a history that already includes six league championships–most notably, back-to-back titles in 2011 and 2012.
Off the field, the Wave's positive impact ripples into the community through an educational program, Making Waves, which sends players to more than 70 schools annually to discuss why healthy habits are good and why mistaking a referee for a zebra could be bad.
