About Minneapolis Holiday Market
The day after Thanksgiving is known as Black Friday, but starting in 2014, residents of Minneapolis can begin recognizing that day for something else: the start of the Minneapolis Holiday Market. Taking its cue from similar centuries-old markets around the globe, the Minneapolis Holiday Market generates seasonal spirit within its twinkling setting at the heart of Peavey Plaza. For nearly four weeks, this area transforms into a quaint village that, much like Santa's man cave, smells of mulled wine, cloves, and cinnamon.
Visitors begin their own traditions here, especially while browsing the countless handcrafted keepsakes and authentic German items. The selection includes wood carvings, knitted scarves, tin toys, beer steins, and more. Those steins might even come in handy, since food and beverage vendors dole out German beers, pastries, potato pancakes, and other European treats. On a centrally located stage, school choirs, brass ensembles, and other entertainers create a festive soundtrack for the market. Elsewhere, kids activities including scavenger hunts and carousel rides keep kids engaged.
