Unlike gulls’ nights out, girls’ nights out are refreshingly free of frenzied squawking and don’t typically end in a tug-of-war over a freshly caught minnow. Spread your wings with today’s Groupon: for $25, you get two tickets to Divas Night Out on Saturday, November 12, from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum's Oswald Visitor Center in Chanhassen (a $50 value).
The Minnesota Landscape Arboretum, which sprawls across 1,137 acres of winding hiking trails and color-dappled garden paths, opens its leafy gates for a Divas Night Out event replete with live entertainers, fashion shows, and 27 display booths. Suds and spirits pour from an on-site cash bar, quenching palates piqued by the event’s wine tastings, food samplings, and appetizer menu. Guests can feast their retinas on designer duds and crab-walking models during a trio of fashion shows before jaunting through retail booths laden with elegant apparel, home décor, and holiday gift items. Acoustic crooning pairs with toe-tapping jazz during a set by The BZ Girls, underscoring psychic readings and prophetic finger-puppet shows by Ruth Lordan. Strut into the gift shop for a 10% discount on all purchases, or test your luck during a raffle rife with Arboretum swag.
Minnesota Landscape Arboretum
More than 1,200 acres worth of gardens, prairies, and woodland trails grace the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum. Upwards of 5,000 plant species call the arboretum home, including trees, shrubs, and Minnesota’s state flower, the Showy Lady’s Slipper. Expert naturalists happily lead visitors through the verdant space via tram or on foot, though guests can also go it alone along the arboretum’s 12.5 miles of trails and walkways. Journeys can lead anywhere from the boardwalk running through Green Heron Pond's bog to Color Me Spring’s vibrant stretch of thousands of annuals.
Amongst these pillars of the natural world stand sculptures made by world-renowned artists. More manmade artwork awaits inside the arboretum’s two galleries, which host seasonal displays of watercolors, acrylics, and photography. Guests can also get involved with the arboretum by attending forums and symposia with scholars, or participating in classes that teach skills such as flower arranging or pruning magical beanstalks so giants can't climb down.
