Appalachian Dracula was famously quoted as saying, "I never drink…moonshine." Teach the original Dracula a thing or two with today's Groupon: for $15, you get a wine tasting for two, two souvenir wine glasses, and a $20 retail credit (a $36 total value) at Miracle Valley Vineyard, located in Delaplane, Virginia.
Family owned and operated, Miracle Valley Vineyard produces award-winning wines in an idyllic farmland setting. Sample and shop from a bouquet of estate-grown grape flavors, including chardonnay and viognier. Those who enjoy a bold red may taste the winery's flagship cabernet sauvignon, which balances fruity notes and spicy harmonies in a delicious liquid duet. Miracle Valley's 2007 Meritage offers a blend of three Bordeaux grape varieties braided together, for sips as smooth as a sentient velvet jacket flirting with shivering partygoers. The vineyard serves its Sweet Michelle for white-wine quaffers, with a delicate dance of partners floral and citrus. The $20 retail credit can be applied toward full bottles, allowing guests to take home whichever selections best tickle their grapebone. The welcoming staff of Miracle Valley's tasting room is always on hand to answer any questions between bouts of busily stomping next season's crop.
The winery is located on 50 peaceful acres of Fauquier County farmland, complete with historical buildings and authentically refreshing country air. Visitors to Miracle Valley Vineyard are welcome to lounge in the gazebo, explore the pond, quake with fear at the butterfly and rose gardens, and drink in the scenery along with their wine. All Groupon guests will also receive two souvenir wine glasses to take home and fill with vino or use as a makeshift melee weapon against vengeful, attacking grapevines.
- In fact, my gold star was awarded to the wine described by Ashley as “liquid art”, and that was the 2007 Cabernet Franc. And liquid art did indeed present itself in the glass. Dark plum, dried herbs and spice filled the nose while waves of dark plums and cherries flooded the mouth. – Warren Richard, Virginia Wine Time
- An excellent choice in the highly diverse (for wineries) Delaplane, VA area. After having a few hours of fun and drinking good wine and enjoying the views from Barrel Oak, Miracle Valley is a good place to wind (or is that wined) down. – David R., Yelp
Miracle Valley Vineyard
In early September, just as the first signs of fall nip at the landscape around the quiet pond and the rolling vineyard—that's when the time is right for Miracle Valley Vineyard to harvest the grapes that will become its estate-grown cabernet franc. But as is so often the case with wine, patience in consuming it is rewarded. The cabernet franc's enticing bouquet of raspberries and violets gives way to a rounded mouthfeel, which balances the ripe fruit flavors with its restrained tannins. During the rest of the year, customers could stick to one of the vineyard's half-dozen other wines, including an off-dry rosé with a lingering sweetness to match its pink hue.
The wine is the main attraction at Miracle Valley, but the grounds are just as enticing. The winery frequently hosts graduations, rehearsal dinners, and other gatherings for up to 50 people, not to mention group tastings in a tasting room that overlooks the lush scenery. While guests are there, they can stroll the territory, perhaps stumbling across bullets from the Civil War raids that took place in the area.
