Mr. Gluck has done a tremendous service to anyone who wants to learn to draw and to paint. He has painstakingly codified centuries of artistic practice so that anyone can learn to draw and to paint. I love that one of the first things one learns to do with the Mission Renaissance method is to hold one's charcoal like a cello bow! Fantastic. I am a former cellist. For me, that was a home run right off the bat. The staff are more than dedicated. And the other students have great ideas about where to get supplies. The other students are also doing fascinating work and are great to learn from. Mr. Gluck and his staff also have an excellent art library to inspire and to motivate.

About Mission: Renaissance

The meaning of art may be subjective, but Mission: Renaissance believes that the basic, technical skills needed to create art are learnable, regardless of a student’s age or experience. The instructors at the studio, which was originally founded in 1975, illuminate the Gluck Method, which focuses on the classic rendering techniques that the great masters used. The classes can accommodate students as young as 5, and they explore a number of different mediums—including charcoal, watercolors, and oils—while giving attendees the experience they need to appreciate art, as well as create it. Spread across 19 studio locations in southern California, attendance is capped at around six students per instructor, which allows them to offer artists more personalized feedback.
