About Mod's Hair LA
With locations in Beverly Center and Downtown Los Angeles, Mod's Hair LA is starting to inject a Parisian sensibility into the American hairstyling world. The Beverly spot is the US flagship of a storied French salon that began expanding internationally in the 1980s.
In 1968, Frédéric and Guillaume Bérard set out to revolutionize hairdressing in France. They first became in-demand on-set stylists for shoots with the hottest fashion photographers and magazines, including Vogue, Marie Claire, Elle, and Harper's Bazaar. The duo then translated their success with models to their first Mod's Hair salon, which opened in 1974.
Uninterested in artificial-looking styles, they refused to use rollers and concentrated on crafting looks with blow dryers and brushes, resulting in the iconic coiffé-décoiffé. This done yet undone look became the epitome of natural, modern elegance, and the Bérards continue as its evangelizers to this day as artistic directors of the Mod's Hair brand.
The LA Salons
The LA outposts are led by David P. Pappalardo, a French native who's been styling hair since age 16. Before opening Mod's Hair LA, he was personally recruited by Frederic Fekkai to work at his flagship US salon, and he worked with designers at every New York Fashion Week from 2009 to 2014.
Pappalardo; his wife, fellow hairstylist Taylor Pappalardo; and an illustrious team work together to craft cutting-edge looks in an equally modern environment. Cuts, updos, blowouts, and color take place in spare, concrete-based salons filled with stylish midcentury-modern furniture. There's even a built-in photo studio—with backdrop and professional lighting—that allows the staff to snap before-and-afters.
