Q:

Hi, In the past, I've had flap surgery and grafts.and am reasonably diligent with flossing and brushing. My teeth are clean but have never had a bright white color. Am I a candidate and do you think this process can bring my color significantly closer to white ? Thanks,Steve

A:

Hi Steve, Yes you are a candidate for teeth whitening, with the peridontal surgery. Your teeth will go to as bright as they can go. Everyone's teeth have a natural stopping point but the in office teeth whitening is the strongest whitening procedure versus at home whitening. Please call us at 516-855-1001 with any other questions an have a happy thanksgiving!

Q:

My teeth are sensitive. Is this compatible with sensitive teeth?

Alice L.  asked on  Nov 22, 2012

A:

Hi Alice, About 10 % of our patients get a temporary sensitivity that lasts about a day that is usually a dull ache or a zingerish feeling. Tylenol or Advil helps. We do cover up your gums so you will not get gum sensitivity. We do recommend that our patients use Sensyodyne toothpaste for a week or two before the whitening to reduce the sensitivity. Lastly, if you are very concerned we can always break the treatment into 2 half hour sessions a week or so apart. If you have any other questions, you can call 516-855-100. We are taking calls today for questions. Thank you and happy thanksgiving.

Q:

what is the effect of this process on capped or false teeth like implants?

Janice G.  asked on  Nov 19, 2012

A:

Hi Janice, The whitening will not harm your implants and will remove the surface stains from the crowns/ capped teeth and bring them back to the color they were when they were placed by your dentist. The whitening cannot make your dental work whiter than it was though when it was originally placed. If you have any other questions feel free to call us at 516-855-1001. Thank you.
