The current exhibit, Space Oddities: The Sequel, features musician David Bowie and his interest in Memphis, a radical design group. Memphis was founded in Milan by Ettore Sottsass in 1981, and Bowie amassed an extensive collection of Memphis pieces, including work from Sottsass and his colleagues Michele De Lucchi, Nathalie DuPasquier, Shiro Kuramata, and Martine Bedin.

The exhibition features over 75 examples, many from Bowie’s private collection, and is the largest gathering of Memphis objects presented in an American museum.

About Modernism Museum Mount Dora

Nearly every piece at the Modernism Museum Mount Dora blurs the line between sculpture and furniture with a focus on carpentry and the spirit of futurism. Freestanding staircases take the shape of deconstructed palm trees and armchairs made of hammer handles questions the roles of utility and art.
