Art can express a variety of human feelings, from joy at the birth of a child to confusion at the birth of a man-child. Eloquently articulate your emotions with today's Groupon: for $49, you get a Family Level membership at the Montalvo Arts Center located in Saratoga.
Montalvo Arts Center nuzzles the Santa Cruz Mountains with a Mediterranean-style villa and 175 acres of countryside traversed by 2.5 miles of hiking trails. California senator James Duval Phelan left the state his hilltop hamlet for the purpose of furthering the Saratoga community's engagement in the arts, but not the spoiled crafts. Today Montalvo presents exhibitions and performances for all ages, and supports resident artists. The Family Level membership grants an individual access to members-only receptions, artist talks, exhibition openings, and attempts to contact Rembrandt van Rijn via Ouija board. This level also accords ticket discounts and ordering privileges, as well as admission for two for a docent-led tour of Villa Montalvo. View the full list of benefits online.

- Nice little jewel tucked up against the hills. Music, art and literary venues as well as artist in residence programs. Nice place to take a hike too. The trails are well marked and clear with great views of the valley. Sometimes there is art tucked up in the hills along the trails, which is always a real treat to find. The artist in residence buildings are worth seeing just for their designs alone. I have been here for concerts in the Carriage house, plays, and in the outdoor amphitheater and they have all been very well run. They have a varied lineup each year as well as author talks. The small art gallery sometimes has some interesting work too. – Barb B., Yelp
- Whether indoors or out, this venue has two really great places to catch an intimate show with great artists coming every year. Be sure to check the schedule often, plan a date in Saratoga, and then head up for a lovely evening. The outside venue is better than the inside, but both are great! – Richard B., Insider Pages
Montalvo Arts Center
San Francisco mayor and US senator James Duval Phelan built the Villa Montalvo in 1912 as a bastion of art, hosting such writers as Jack London and Edwin Markham in conversation-filled luncheons and creativity-fueling vacations. After his death, Phelan bequeathed the house and grounds to the public, asking that they continue its role as an incubator of inspiration. Today, the center hosts artist residencies, gallery exhibitions, and educational opportunities for visitors. Surrounding the wealth of culture, the 175-acre grounds include miles of hiking trails through woodlands densely populated with muses, a meticulously manicured Italianate garden, and a picnic-ready Great Lawn.
