What You'll Get
Though spinning massive amounts of dough above one's head is an amusing way to display a coin collection, it requires superhuman stamina to maintain. Rest your triceps and leave the dough-spinning to the pros with today's Groupon: for $20, you get $40 worth of Italian fare at Montana’s in Freeport.
With its classic dining room flanked by a full-service bar and cozy pizzeria, Montana’s combines the festive refinery of fine Italian cuisine with the nostalgic familiarity of a neighborhood pizza hangout. Start off by tongue-plucking a field of funghi ripieni—silver-dollar mushrooms stuffed with roasted peppers, mushrooms, and breadcrumbs ($9 or $18 for a family portion)—before using a melanzane pizzette (tomato sauce topped with battered eggplant and spotted with ricotta and mozzarella, $8) to cover up any food-swallowing manholes. Experimental zookeepers can build a pesca-bovine menagerie in their stomachs with the vitello alla camillino—veal scaloppini topped with prosciutto and fontina cheese in a mushroom and cognac sauce ($18 or $28 for a family portion)—and tilapia mareciarrana—pan-seared tilapia in a white wine, lemon and garlic sauce topped with a cluster of cherry tomatoes ($16 or $25 for a family portion).
Inside Montana's dining room, hushed lighting complements cream- and coffee-toned decor, enabling an eating experience that is upscale, yet casual, and lit well enough for reading nervous notes off of the palm.
