Guides lead a team of visitors through the orchard, picking the ripest candidates from the 10 varieties of apples available. Afterward, they head to an old-fashioned cider press to make some take-home beverages. Each customer will leave with a half gallon of apple cider and half peck (approximately 5 pounds) of apples.
Today, the crew at Montgomery Orchard hosts plenty of family friendly entertainments. They welcome visitors for self-guided tours through the beautiful prairie, and also invite them to come pluck 12 varieties of apples—not to mention pears and plums—fresh from the trees during harvest season. The six-acre corn maze is divided into two halves, with one side being shorter and well-suited for families with small children, and a second side which is longer and will require more time to complete. A cidery/winery is also on-site, allowing adults to purchase a glass of wine or participate in a tasting.
