MorArt - Lincoln City: $40 for a Fused-Glass Class at MorArt ($95 Value)

Glass can be exquisite in its myriad forms, from the ornate windows of a Gothic cathedral to the crystalline webbing of a freshly vandalized windshield. Reflect on beauty with this Groupon.

$40 for a Fused-Glass Art Class ($95 Value)

With one-on-one guidance from an instructor, students learn how to shape, cut, and fuse together multicolored pieces of spaghetti, frit, and powdered glass to create a 10”x10” sheet of glass art. After eight hours in a fiery kiln, finished pieces are ready for pickup the morning after the class. The studio can also ship finished pieces to students for an additional fee. All materials are included.

MorArt

Local artist and glass master Dan Watts opened the doors of MorArt more than 4 years ago with a ribbon-cutting ceremony that attracted the likes of actress Tippi Hedren of Hitchcock's The Birds fame. After the confetti settled and the balloon outlines of Hitchcock's silhouette popped, Lincoln City was left with a haven for hands-on glass making.

Dan teaches the art of glass fusing during one-on-one sessions or group classes. Equipping students with the tools, materials, and knowledge necessary, he lets them roam free to breathe life into their own refractive creations. Though he remains on-hand for advice, instruction, and assistance, the onus lies on each individual to create a masterpiece worthy of mantel display. Once students finish, Dan fires up his kiln's bedchamber so that each piece can stay and solidify overnight. Masterworks can be shipped for an additional fee, delivered express via the studio's catapult, or picked up from the store along with a few pieces of Dan's original work.

Just a heads up, you get clear glass. If you want a colored background, it's an additional $20 per piece. Very friendly guys though!

The glass art is beautiful. The in-resident artists try to help by inserting their own ideas, which will give good results for a first-timer. But their ideas can sometimes override your own creative process.

They are very friendly and knowledgeable. They made doing and art project fun and they help you when you need it without asking they see your mistakes and help you correct them without making it a big deal. They teach you what to do and why what you did will adversely affect the final outcome of your project and what to do to fix it. I had a great time!
