What You'll Get

Horses are some of the most perceptive animals, as evidenced by the popular saying, "You can lead a horse to water, but you can't explain his intimate knowledge of your childhood fears.” Today’s Groupon gets you eerily close to our intuitive equine counterparts at Morris’s Shadow Mountain Stables in Auburn. Choose between the following options:

  • For $30, you get a 90-minute horseback ride (a $65 value).
  • For $6, you get a one-day pass to the petting farm (a $12 value).

Morris’s Shadow Mountain Stables is cozily nestled on a beautiful, quiet patch of landscape. The stables’ horse-powered trail rides will prop each prospective equestrian atop a magnificent mammal for a leisurely stroll through the local wilderness. During the 90-minute ride, jockeys and their fearless equine companions will be led through nearby woods, where they’ll meander around a glittering pond before returning to the stables through a pasture with views of Mount Rainier. The rides are nonvigorous and ideal for beginners and centaurs-in-training. During especially cold winter weather, the stables are outfitted for indoor rides, allowing riders to learn arena patterns and nonreindeer horse games.

Visitors more inclined to practice their hide-stroking techniques can explore the intimate petting farm. Guests have close encounters with a number of amicable creatures, including baby goats, alpacas, and cows. Take a jaunt through the barn and witness steeds from across the breed gamut nibble on hay or clunk around in hand-me-down horseshoes. Amateur zoologists can study the snuggling habits of giant rabbits, examine the cute behavior of carnivorous critters in the ferret house, and test the mental aptitude of the resident pig. The full-service stables are owned by experienced horsemistress Bonnie Morris, whose lifelong study of the equine arts has equipped her with exceptional skills as an instructor and guide.

About Morris's Shadow Mountain Stables

Bonnie Morris's love of horses began when she was just 9 years old. By age 10, she was the proud guardian of her own colt. And at 22, she set the wheels in motion to open her own training center. Today, at Morris's Shadow Mountain Stables, she and her staff continue to bond riders and steeds within the five-acre haven, far beyond the reaches of the cluttered outside world.

How Best to Bond

  • Lessons and summer camps teach showmanship and horse care
  • Trail rides mosey through nearby woods, meadows, and grasslands overlooking Mount Rainier
  • Birthday parties include horseback rides or visits to the...
  • Petting farm, which facilitates up-close encounters with fuzzy ferrets, giant bunnies, mini horses, and baby goats
