Hosted by veteran funnymen Steve Hofstetter and Marshall Chiles, Trial By Laughter pits three dozen comedians against each other in a 36-way joke joust, with a TV special, cash, and other prizes going to the winner. Together with a panel of experts, crowd members evaluate each performance and help decide which hopeful humorists move on to the next round, giving audiences all the fate-twisting power of real judges without forcing them to run for office or smelt their own stainless-steel gavels.
Swing by Morty's from November 2–4 for the first round, when each hour-long show will feature a total of 12 comic contestants and one humorous host, or opt for one of two 60-minute semi-final shows November 5, when the number of giggle-extracting mic jockeys is cut in half. The 8 p.m. show on Saturday, November 6, presents the competition's culmination in a four-person final round, followed by a 10:15 show the same evening featuring the winner and first runner-up in performances recorded for DVD. Audiences for the Sunday, November 7, show will witness a best-of bonanza that fires a concentrated dose of pure mirth from a high-powered chuckle cannon.
Morty's Comedy Joint swaddles guests in a state-of-the-art joke-reception environment, complete with a high-end audio-visual system and 280 seats that all provide clear views of each wisecrack as it takes flight from the stage. All Trial by Laughter shows, other than the November 7 show, will be recorded for broadcast on Comcast (broadcasts are tentatively scheduled to begin airing in late December), giving audience members the chance to astound friends by watching the broadcast and predicting each joke before it's told.
