During this half-hour trip through Toiyabe National Forest, a team of high-stepping horses draws up to 14 passengers bundled into an old-fashioned earth cruiser past rugged cliffs and through forest glens stuffed with snow-wreathed Ponderosa pines, junipers, and aspens. At 7,700 feet above sea level and a 35-minute drive from the Strip, the forest is usually about 30 degrees cooler than Las Vegas and 175 degrees cooler than a burning magazine, so bring warm clothes along with a thermos of hot cocoa for the crackling campfire at the trail's end.
