Make sure you are for to walk up around 250 stairs mind you the typical house only has 12 to 14. There are wide landings every so often to take a break if needed. I went when it was 94° and made it to the top. Just bring water. The views are great however you have to take pictures behind windows and they weren't very clean. Only 5 people are allowed up at a time.

Friendly staff and low cost. However, there is no 360-degree view of the city. You can only view the outside from a few narrow windows at the top. Also, please be advised that walking up and down the spiral stairs may cause dizziness. Would not recommend for someone who is claustrophobic.

About Washington Monument

Eighteen months and $6 million: that's what it took the Mount Vernon Place Conservancy to return the Washington Monument to its former glory. After being closed since 2010, that restoration effort enabled the grand re-opening on July 4, 2015—exactly 200 years after the Monument's original cornerstone was laid. Now, visitors are welcome back inside, past the bust of George himself, past the bronze plaque memorializing the centennial, past the gallery space with its virtual touchscreen tours of the Monument's exterior and interior, and to the foot of the stairs. Because here the most thrilling part of history is the view from the top. After climbing a tower consisting of 227 marble steps, visitors can look out over the city of Baltimore from roughly 250 feet above sea level.
