Under the masterful baton brandishing of music director and conductor Crafton Beck, Mississippi Symphony Orchestra’s accomplished ensemble of musicians enchants audiences with more than 120 concerts statewide each year. Accompanied by touring vocalist Jean Meilleur, pianist John Regan, and the Jeans ‘n Classics band, the Mississippi Symphony Orchestra regales spectators with classic Elton John tunes such as “Rocket Man,” “Tiny Dancer,” and a rendition of “Circle of Life” from The Lion King complete with a meerkat trip-hop group. Violin wiz Stephanie Chase pilots the orchestra through Leonard Bernstein’s Serenade between bookending compositions from Carlos Chavez and Camille Saint-Saëns during Bravo IV: Exotic, Eclectic & Electric. Guests to the latter program are invited to a complimentary 6:45 p.m. preconcert lecture at the Mississippi Museum of Art, where scholar Timothy Coker illuminates audiences on the merits of using pots and pans as substitutes for drum sets.
