Armed with nothing but an airsoft pistol, contestants aged 10 and older embark on a dimly lit trail to successfully try and make their way through a horde of zombies. As competitors surmount hills and tackle various other obstacles on the mile-long trail, the undead chase them down in an attempt to infect them with a virus. Anyone tagged with the hazardous, glow-in-the dark liquid must join the decaying legion and attempt to foil the remaining racers. The only way to stop a zombie is to shoot it with an airsoft pellet, at which point it will retreat into the woods.
When navigating the course, everyone must complete a series of readiness stops, which both enhance and impede runners' chances for survival. Although water helps refuel the energy of participants, a protective vest weighs them down, and a baby in need of saving only adds to the burden of the macabre journey. The first participant to cross the finish line with infant safely in hand wins a grand prize. The race begins at 8 p.m. on Saturday, October 20. All attendees receive goggles to protect their eyes, and should wear clothing they don't mind getting dirty or infected, whether from the zombies themselves or the litter of corpses on the trail.
Runners for a Muddier Tomorrow
Runners for a Muddier Tomorrow challenges runners to conquer forests, water crossings, and mud in simulated prison escapes. At undeveloped locations, trails wind through felled trees and tall grass, letting participants choose to sprint, sneak through, or build a dam and never leave. Wielding paintball markers, snipers hide along each race aiming at participants. During events, Runners for a Muddier Tomorrow's staff mans rest stations. Here, they grill food, available for an additional fee, and pour complimentary beverages including sports drinks and water. The race organizers also look for new ways to innovate their competitions, hatching plans for other events such as mock zombie outbreaks.
