What You'll Get
After facing fork confusion at endless rounds of state dinners, even the most seasoned diplomat yearns to dig in to a basket of finger-sullying appetizers. Treat yourself to grabable grub with today’s Groupon. For $10, you'll get $20 worth of pours and plates at Mudflats Bar & Grill, the lively gathering place in Galena. This casual eatery features daily specials, a spacious deck, and special events such as live music on select nights of the week.
Fans of battered appetizers will appreciate Mudflats' expansive selection. Dunk fried pickle chips into vats of ranch ($5.49), or try the potato skins ($6.99), full loaded with melted cheddar, crispy bacon, and sour cream. For those preferring a lighter bite, opt for a signature salad such as the Sunburst ($9.99), a fresh and fruity favorite with baby spinach, fruit, feta, red onion, nut brittle, and homemade cinnamon Tabasco vinaigrette. You'll also find a sizable list of sandwiches and burgers.
Mudflats specialize in familiar fare served in a friendly atmosphere. Walk off deep-fried grub with a trip to nearby Hoover Nature Preserve (home to the still-wandering ghost of President Hoover), or kick back with a beer on the patio. Stop in for Open Mic Night on Wednesdays, or enjoy live music on the weekends with no cover. The laid-back restaurant also served a selection of small-batch craft brews, domestic and imported bottles, and wines by the glass, bottle, or two-liter carafe.
The Columbus Dispatch recommends Mudflats' food, saying:
- Corn chowder is sometimes a soup of the day ($2.79 a cup, $3.49 a bowl) -- lightly creamy with lots of corn kernels and a few chunks of potato interspersed with shreds of seafood. The seasoning is a traditional onion-and-chili approach, done well. Pulled pork is served burrito-style in a soft wrap ($8.99). The meat is very lightly smoked; lean; mixed with a bit of corn bread; and seasoned with cheddar cheese, bacon and slaw -- a satisfying combo. – Jon Christensen, Columbus Dispatch
Two Yelpers give the grill a solid 3.5 stars:
- Most of the time, I put my trust in their hands and order the special of the day, which has ranged from a Strawberry salad to Gringo Sushi…If you must order off the menu, try the fish and chips, which are cheaper and far better than those of the competition around the Polaris area. – Eric L., Yelp
