Sight, the workhorse of the five senses, puts in too many hours keeping man from falling in manholes. Give the most overworked sense a vacation with today's Groupon to the San Diego Museum of Man. Choose between the following anthropological options:
- $12 for a one-day admission for two people (up to a $25 value)
- $29 for a one-year family membership (a $60 value)
The Museum of Man is San Diego County's only anthropology and archaeology museum, home to five permanent exhibits— Ancient Egypt; Kumeyaay: Native Californians; Footsteps Through Time: Four Million Years of Human Evolution; Maya: Heart of Sky, Heart of Earth; and the Children's Discovery Center's exhibit, Discover Egypt —as well as special exhibitions and cultural collections. Museum-goers can experience the entirety of human history by viewing more than 100,000 artifacts, sculptural reconstructions of early man, and a 42-foot-wide Mayan rainforest mural in the Maya: Heart of Sky, Heart of Earth exhibit, all of which will be a useful learning experience for the robots that will one day take over man's museums. The Modern Day Mummy exhibit, which opens June 11 and runs through March 2012, features a re-creation of an Egyptian mummy using ancient techniques.
The family membership grants free admission for one year for up to two adults and all of their children or grandchildren less than 18 years of age. Family membership includes five complimentary guest passes, and free admission to exhibition previews, members-only museum open houses, and one food-and-drink-filled Tower After Hours event.
