What You'll Get
History museums tend to have more applicable material than museums dedicated to the future, which usually consist of an old man reading horoscopes in front of a screening of Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure. Keep your mind in the past with today's Groupon: for $5, you get one ticket to the Museum of the City of New York (up to a $10 value), located on Fifth Avenue. Discounted tickets are available based on age; children 12 and younger are admitted free.
The Museum of the City of New York takes stock of the city's illustrious history, present, and future with a vast collection of photographs and artifacts. Peruse the current exhibitions, such as Movable Feast, a photographic chronicle of the NYC Green Cart program, which provides fresh fruit and vegetables to underserved communities. The museum's On the Move displays myriad antique toys—from ocean liners to horse-drawn carts—that show the evolution of city transportation. Other current exhibitions include The American Style: Colonial Revival and the Modern Metropolis, recently featured in The New York Times, and Joel Grey/A New York Life. Because of ongoing renovations much of the permanent collection may not be on exhibit. Throughout summer the Museum is open seven days a week from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. from June 20 through September 26 and on Wednesdays, 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. from July 13 through August 3.
Visitors can browse the museum's public programs, the majority of which are free with museum admission, including the Stickball Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony on July 8 and a screening of the film Cabaret on July 24. With this deal, you'll also receive 10% off at the Museum's store, stocked with books, gifts, clothing, and the deed to Pluto.

About Museum of the City of New York
Located along the Museum Mile section of Fifth Avenue, the Museum of the City of New York chronicles local culture through an array of exhibitions, interactive programs, publications, and other media. Founded in 1923 and housed in a landmark building, the nonprofit museum hosts temporary exhibitions to complement extensive permanent collections. Hallways and gallery spaces invite guests inside to study historic maps, photographs of life and architecture, and artwork, as well as vintage displays gathering toys, fashion, and furniture—providing more insight into the city's rich character than the diary of Al Pacino. Docents and visiting artists aim to highlight the city's diversity and heritage through public programs and events, such as gallery tours and performances as well as symposiums and panels. A gift shop allows visitors to bring home a taste of the Big Apple via city-spirited books, clothing, posters, music, films, and handmade goods.
